Build your first map

  1. Choose New map and name the central topic.
  2. Select a topic and choose Add branch to add a connected idea. Select that new topic to build another level.
  3. Use Edit to change a topic's label, notes or named colour.
  4. Open More topic actions to move a branch or change its order among its siblings. Sub-branches always travel with their parent.
  5. Wait for "Saved on this device" before closing the app.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move a branch without dragging?

Select the topic, open More topic actions and choose Move branch, then pick its new parent. Move earlier and Move later change its position among its siblings. A branch can never be moved into itself or into one of its own descendants.

What is the outline for?

Choose Outline to work with the same map as a structured list, with the same editing controls. It is also the accessible alternative to canvas gestures. On a large screen the canvas and outline appear side by side.

How do I move around the canvas?

Drag to pan and pinch to zoom. The minus, plus and Fit controls do the same thing without gestures. The topic menu can flip the map to grow left or right. Changing your view never reorders your outline.

Which export should I choose?

PNG and PDF show a Notes marker where a topic has notes, but not the note text itself. Visible topics only excludes collapsed descendants; a full-map export includes them.

Where are my maps saved?

In the app's private storage on your device only. Confirmed changes save automatically. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

How do I move my maps to a new phone?

Choose Settings and backup → Back up all maps, then save the JSON file somewhere you control. On the new phone, install Sprigfolio and choose Restore from a backup. Maps are added as independent copies; nothing is overwritten. A PNG or PDF is not a restorable backup.

If something goes wrong

Working limits

A library holds up to 100 maps. Each map supports 200 topics and 24 levels below its central topic, with 160-character labels and 4,000-character notes. A 16 MB serialized library and backup limit also applies, so a library can reach its size limit before every individual count is filled.
