Writing templates and a private draft planner for Android

Getting started

Tap New draft, pick a structure, and write. Every structure is a set of headings with one line of guidance underneath. Delete the guidance as you replace it. The in-app Help screen, under Settings, explains every feature in detail.

There is no Save button

Inkframe writes your text to the device as you type and again whenever you leave the editor, so closing the app does not lose the draft you were working on. The toolbar shows “Saving” and then “Saved” so you can see it happen.

Going back to an earlier version

Open the editor menu and choose Version history. Inkframe keeps up to 30 earlier versions of each draft. Restoring one keeps the text you are replacing as a new version first and offers Undo, so a restore is never a one-way door.

How words are counted

Characters are Unicode code points, so an emoji counts as one. Words are whitespace-separated runs containing a letter or digit, plus one word for each Chinese, Japanese, Korean syllable or Yi character, because those scripts do not put spaces between words. Reading time is words divided by 200 per minute, rounded up. The Help screen states these rules in full.

The planner does not post anything

A planned date is a private note to yourself. Inkframe cannot reach the internet, sends no notifications, and never publishes or schedules anything to any service.

Exporting a draft

Editor menu, then Export to a file. Choose Markdown or plain text, optionally include the draft’s details, and pick where the file goes. Your text is written through exactly as you typed it, including blank lines. Inkframe only creates the file you name and never changes or deletes anything else.

Moving to a new phone

Settings, then Save a backup, writes one JSON file containing every draft, version, collection, tag, snippet and template. On the new device use Restore from a file. Inkframe shows you exactly what the file contains before it writes anything, and lets you either add the missing items or replace everything. A restore that fails part-way is rolled back completely.

A backup will not restore

Inkframe refuses a file it cannot trust rather than importing part of it, and always says why: the file is not an Inkframe backup, it was damaged, it is larger than the 32 MB limit, or it was written by a newer version of the app. In every one of those cases nothing on your device is changed.

Larger text

Inkframe follows your system font size, and Settings adds an editor text size on top of it. Every control has a screen-reader label and the app works in light and dark themes.
